i know its been ages since i posted last. Thing have been Super busy and there has been a lot of neaw work but no time to photograph any of it !!!!

Firstly, i had another exhibition in November !! I was one of the many stall owners at Utsav 2009 and it was a great privilage to be among such veterain designers. This was not an art exhibiton like the last show i had in 2008. I showcased my work in both Kottyam and Cochin, mostly stoles, cushion covers, napkin box covers, shawls etc. It was brilliant !!

I recently got an order to make a 200 cm by 200 cm shibori piece for a dubay cover. it was the first time i was working with so much cloth and it nearly drove me insane ! The colour, size, design ..everything was a challenge at that size. But the outcome at the end of it all was not too bad so there might be hope for shibori sarees and bed spreads in the future yet !

As you know i recently had an odrder to do a collection on Kerala which included stoles cushions and art. you’ve seen the stoles and cushion cover, here is what i came up with in terms of Shibori art ! as you know all the cloth is hand dyed by me using Shobori, the Japanese technique of dyeing silk.

i have been wanting to start batik for months now, trying to get together all my supplies and chemicals. not to mention waiting for my small work space to get set up, now, finally, its all sort of taken shape sooo i actually began some simple explorations the other day and i was so excited with how they came out i just had to come and put them up…. so here they are, i plan to do a lot more pieces, with more variations and a lot of exploration. but for a start i think im doing ok….. trying to get a feel of the dyes …. you have to be so careful when dealing with naphthols ! ok enough typing …. on to the work !!!

in the above two pieces i began by exploring the tools i had. and also i tried out the dyes for the first time. mostly i was looking at thick/thin lines, brush strokes, how to get fluid lines, the effects i can achieve etc etc.

in these two pieces i experimented with naphthol dyes and vat dyes…. the blue/green fishy piece is done using vat dyes, and the leaf is done using naphthols.

Don’t you just love flowers? i recently got an order for sunflowers, and initially i wasn’t too sure how it would come out, but i later realized how lucky i truly was cos it gave me the opportunity to work with a lot of shades !!! no more reds and harsh blues !!!

my next order is for a piece with different shades of green, cant wait to see how that one turns out !

hi everyone, its been a really busy month and i must admit i have been ignoring my blog just a little bit, but im back and first let me start off by sharing some pics of my amazing experiance at a batik factory in Sri Lanka which is where i was for a little less than a month. i was really lucky to get the oppertunity to work with some amazing woman who have been doing batik for over 35 years. even got to do some small pieces myself.
